LESSONS IN POP CULTURE | “Rock n Roll Star(s)” Lessons

The British rock band Oasis announced a long-awaited reunion in late September 2024, with a tour in 2025 that will include stadium shows in the U.K. and Ireland.

Side note – I am an enormous Oasis fan!  My son Tyler has already secured single tickets to their opening show and another show a few nights later.  Perhaps he is reading this and will consider selling one to his Dad – hint, hint.

A few lessons learned:

  • We may argue, fuss and fight and even go our separate ways, but in the end our bond and respect for one-another often brings us together.  This is true of colleagues and competitors.  Never fully close a door!  Never say never!  We work in a small, highly connected industry.  As an industry, we are the prime example of the “Seven Degrees of Separation from Kevin Bacon.”
  • Never disparage! “Don’t Look Back in Anger” as the Oasis song reminds us!
  • It is not about the flair – this is one of the most “stiff” groups ever.  It is their talent, drive and passion that are the success drivers.  That being said…Dress the part.  Neatness counts.  Keeping this in mind, confidence is more respected in my eyes far more than swagger.  It is more valuable to “Talk the talk and walk the walk.”
  • Be truthful, not arrogant. Don’t say things just to have your voice heard – These two brothers are not shy about expressing their opinions.  Not trying to be political, but I could not find better words than those expressed by Former First Lady, Michelle Obama “When they go low; you go high”.

In summary, as Oasis’ titles remind us – “Stand by Me” “Whatever” and “Live Forever” –

My words – let us stand united together, and when we get frustrated just try to let it go.  We will not live forever and should look to live a happy, healthy and long life with minimal unnecessary stress.
