The Fairfield, Iowa-based wealth management firm, Cambridge Investment Research, recently launched Indy, its proprietary AI-powered chat assistant, it announced in a press release. “Indy,” which is short for Independence, was “designed to transform how advisors and associates access information and complete tasks.”

Trained using Cambridge-specific knowledge, Indy can provide users with accurate, instant answers to straightforward and complex questions about critical client matters, saving time and allowing users to spend more time working directly with end clients.

“Indy reflects our vision for practical AI adoption,” said Colleen Bell, President, Innovation and Experience at Cambridge. “We’re not just experimenting with AI — we’re building tools that enhance the advisor’s ability to provide clients the service they expect.”

This announcement comes six months after the company became the first in the industry to use an agentic AI agent for direct account openings. The company plans to expand the platform’s capabilities by integrating with other systems to create a centralized hub for research, operational support and advisor tools.

“Indy empowers our advisors and associates to do more during a period of incredible demand for their services,” said Val Vest, Executive Vice President and Chief Experience Officer at Cambridge. “By handling routine inquiries and tasks, Indy frees our teams to focus on delivering personalized service and building client relationships.”
