Well, that’s a wrap on Memorial Day weekend. Summer is allegedly here. Time to dust off the flip‑flops and see whether last year’s swimsuit still fits. If it doesn’t, wear it anyway. Confidence is the new tailoring.
☀️ The Markets
Last week I said there were only three kinds of markets: up, down, and sideways. Cute. Turns out there’s a fourth: crappy.
We’re now in the “spin the wheel and pray” phase of market behavior. One index up, another down, then they switch, then they both go up, then they both go down, and Bitcoin — the drama queen of assets — decides to go absolutely nowhere.
Anyone who claims they “understand” these markets is either a liar, a bigger liar, or clinically insane. That’s my official market rant for the week.
🏔️ Summer
Summer can’t come fast enough. Pool and beach time are essential for human survival. Unfortunately, here in Bozeman, we have neither.
We have mountains. And bears. So instead of lounging by a pool, we sit on a rock and hope the wildlife is in a good mood. Still better than watching these markets.
ASSET CLASSES (a.k.a. “Things That Are Supposed to Move but Don’t”)
🪙 Gold & Silver
Neutral. No positions. Gold is calming down like it just finished a yoga retreat. Inflation news? Doesn’t care. Rate hike rumors? Also doesn’t care.
Silver? Forget $100. Silver can’t even see $100 from where it’s standing. The metals are entering the summer doldrums, and the doldrums are winning.
📈 S&P 500
“500 stocks.” Sure. And I’m 6’4”. We all know it’s really 10–12 stocks dragging the whole thing around like a sled dog team that’s down to its last two huskies.
I remain neutral. Being jerked around by a dozen names is not my idea of entertainment.
₿ Bitcoin & ETH
What on earth is Bitcoin doing? Everyone is a buyer — institutions, corporations, Michael Saylor (who buys Bitcoin the way some people breathe). Supply is shrinking. Demand is rising. And Bitcoin… drifts lower.
Have stablecoins become the new villain? Video killed the radio star, so maybe stablecoins killed the Bitcoin vibe.
And the uncomfortable question: What happens to Bitcoin if Michael Saylor dies? I don’t want to think about it, but here we are.
It hurts to say this, but: I’m neutral.
FINAL THOUGHT
If you want to fully relax this summer, there’s only one strategy: Be neutral or hedged. Preferably both.
See you next week.
