Cambridge Appoints Erik Smyer as Vice President, Infrastructure and Operations

Fairfield, Iowa-based Cambridge Investment Research has appointed former Onsemi IT leader Erik Smyer as Vice President, Infrastructure and Operations.

Smyer will lead the independent financial solutions firm’s cybersecurity, infrastructure and hardware management teams. Among his duties are advancing cloud adoption, bolstering enterprise security and delivering scalable infrastructure capabilities in support of the firm’s growth.

Before joining Cambridge, Smyer spent more than a decade at semiconductor supplier Onsemi. There, he served as the company’s IT Chief of Staff and Director of Global Infrastructure Design. During his tenure, Smyer headed enterprise technology strategy and operations for more than 30,000 users around the world.

Prior to Onsemi, Smyer held the role of Director of Infrastructure and Cloud Engineering at private higher education holding company Apollo Education Group, where he led global cloud and infrastructure initiatives.

Smyer is a 22-year Marine Corps veteran. He earned a bachelor’s degree and a master’s degree in computer information systems, in addition to an MBA, from the University of Phoenix.
