Time’s up. Government shutdown is over. Which means……economic data is free to be released. Jobs data, inflation numbers, PMI and a myriad of others (some not important) are expected to be released in stages. Think of them as “free range data.” Good news? Bad news? Yes on both.
This Thursday brings the missing and long-awaited jobs report from before the shutdown. Before all the excitement hits, keep in mind that there is probably some incomplete data which is also old. A glimpse of what was, not up to date. The good news is the data is out, the bad news is…..the incomplete data is out.
The really BIG news of the week is the expected release of ALL the Epstein files. Big whoop. Those files have been sitting around for years and through several different presidential terms. One political party clamors for the release of the files, certain it will implicate the president in something. But, now that he is expected to sign off on the release, will that other political party say no to releasing the files just to be anti-Trump? Stay tuned and remember, “careful what you wish for.” Great drama anyway.
Another fairly big story somewhat overlooked: when you go to the TV guide and search for MSNBC, it’s gone. No more. It’s now……MS NOW (My Source Now). Just saying. A lot of people swear by that channel.
Looking ahead, remember the “ex-current” government shutdown may be over, but come January it may be revisited. Yes (sigh), the funding just agreed to only goes to the end of January. What the heck? Good question. No answer.
Of course the really BIG story of the week and beyond is the financial markets. It started with Bitcoin crashing down to $90K (so far?) and then spilling over to equities. Someone looked behind the door and discovered valuations. Hmmmm. They seemed high (surprise) and selling began. Of course, looking ahead with “doubtful” economic data coming, perhaps no interest rate cut in December and maybe another government shutdown in January, it could be prudent to take some profits. Nice. Spoil Thanksgiving like that. Shame.
And here we are. Holidays approaching and uncertainty raging. Tropical islands are really nice.
