Ah, yes, we meet again. I’m talking about December. It shows up once a year right before we turn the calendar to another new year. So, everyone meet December.
Now December is best known for its holiday season. The last two weeks of the month include Christmas, New Years Eve and football. It also makes for extremely dull and illiquid markets. This December, over the next three weeks, will bring a couple of new twists. Since the government shutdown many economic numbers were mothballed. They’re starting to come out.
This week the Fed’s preferred inflation gauge number (the PCE) comes out. Its important because the Fed meets next week (9th & 10th) to announce its decision on interest rates. It looks like a ‘lock’ for a 25bp reduction. Merry Christmas. It also means the PCE will be a useless number since the cut is coming no matter what.
Markets are schizoid. Drop, rally. Rally, drop. Rinse and repeat over and over. So, I have been neutral for weeks. Tired of giving money away. Holiday gifts are so much more satisfying. Again….NEUTRAL on S&P 500, GOLD, ETH and kinda sorta BITCOIN. Yes, I have a love (hate) affair with BTC. I am neutral there, but leaning bullish (late year end push up?).
With financial markets so ‘uncertain,’ it never hurts to wait. 2026 is coming. Plenty of opportunities ahead.
