In a move to solidify its position in digital communications data and intelligence, Smarsh has announced the opening of its latest Center of Excellence in Costa Rica. The new office, nestled in the tech-centric Ultra Park in Heredia, is Smarsh’s first foray into the Latin American market.

For Smarsh, a company already dominating markets in North America, Europe, and Asia, the decision to expand into Latin America was driven by a confluence of factors. Costa Rica, with its burgeoning tech ecosystem and a talent pool of over 45,000 highly skilled technology specialists, offers the ideal environment for Smarsh to scale its operations. The country’s time zone alignment with the United States and linguistic versatility in Spanish and Portuguese further enhance its appeal, ensuring that Smarsh can provide seamless, around-the-clock support to its global customers.

“The establishment of our Costa Rica office marks a pivotal step in our strategy for sustained growth and global presence,” said Smarsh CEO Kim Crawford Goodman. “By tapping into the vibrant ecosystem Costa Rica offers, we are positioning ourselves to enhance our operational capabilities and service offerings, ensuring we remain at the forefront of our industry.”

Smarsh is poised to enhance its service offerings significantly. The company plans to hire up to 50 employees within the first year, with a focus on marketing and customer support roles.

This expansion into Latin America also reflects a broader trend in the tech industry, where companies are increasingly looking beyond traditional hubs like Silicon Valley and New York for growth opportunities. The shift towards Latin America, and specifically Costa Rica, underscores the region’s rising importance as a global technology player. The proximity to other global tech giants like Amazon, Intel, and Microsoft creates a synergistic environment that Smarsh can leverage to drive innovation and enhance its service delivery. Moreover, local top-tier tech talent aligns with Smarsh’s need for advanced technical expertise to support its complex, AI-powered applications.

“The opening of our Costa Rica office is not just a testament to Smarsh’s commitment to global expansion, but a pledge to our customers around the world,” said Smarsh Chief Customer Officer Rohit Khanna. “This move ensures that we’re not just meeting the needs of our customers but exceeding them, by offering unparalleled expertise and support whenever and wherever they need it.”

In July, Smarsh said it was one of eight eDiscovery and Data Loss Prevention companies that OpenAI selected to integrate with as part of its first compliance partnership program and rollout of its own Enterprise Compliance API.
