THE LEAD: America’s Terminal Cancer

60

There’s no other way to put it. The U.S. has stage 4B terminal cancer. It has been growing for a very long time and neglected, hoping it was just old age. I mean the country is almost 250 years old. But it’s not just old age. It’s cancer and it’s a huge concern.

Knowing from experience with both my wife and myself having survived two different types of stage 4B cancers (no oh’s, ah’s, sorry, etc. please…it’s over), it ain’t fun. Nor easy or pleasant. The treatments are almost unbearable but the option of doing nothing is…….well, not so good. But, this great country can, and will, get through it.

Sadly the U.S. cancer has been spreading (not unnoticed, but neglected) for several decades. And in the America’s case, it’s not just one form of cancer. Nope. This cancer has spread to fiscal cancer, social cancer, political cancer and ideological cancer. The potential cure is going to be extremely difficult and painful. Get ready.

The early spread of the country’s fiscal cancer began way back in 2009. Remember the financial crisis? The global meltdown was stage 1 | early stage cancer. The early treatment? Try and crush the cancer with money. Lots of money. Kill those cancer cells with zero interest rates, QE in mass buying of bonds and….hope it works. Well, it did and didn’t.

While the new “wonder drug” (money) did seem to work on the targeted cancer cells (financial collapse), it allowed the cells to spread to other portions of the economy. Soon fiscal distortions began appearing in housing (zero mortgages), asset appreciation (stocks, etc.) and inflation. The U.S. administration and Federal Reserve ignored the wider spread of cancer.

As the supposed cancer cure (again, money) worked through the system, it began to metastasize (spread) into other areas. Part of the country became more wealthy while another part was left out. Cancer was causing a social divide. Ignored by the Fed, the cancer spread rapidly.

Beginning in 2016 the cancer spread to political divide with the election of Donald Trump to President. The financial divide widened with the portion of the populace that held assets becoming wealthier and those in the lower portion of the population fading further into “obscurity.” Trump tapped into that portion. Political cancer was flaring.

With “cancer inflation” spreading rapidly, 2020 brought COVID and a new President (Biden). To ensure the COVID “cancer” didn’t sink the economy, the Fed and new administration turned to the previous form of fighting cancer – treat it with a HUGE injection of money. Lots of money. Inflation spiked up. Really up.

America’s cancer has not only spread throughout every sector of the country, but has metastasized into the fabric of the country. The county’s debt is off the charts. The political cancer is fully embedded in the population. Social cancer has spread to things like gender identity, education and others. The country is dying (rapidly) of cancer. What to do?

The last resort. Drastic action. A new plan. CHEMOTHERAPY. Doing nothing is not an option. Chemo is nasty. It is painful. It takes time. Will it work?

And what does “chemotherapy” look like for America? It’s a brutal dose of reality. Spending cuts, slashed entitlement programs, federal jobs reduced, sacred cows slaughtered, and political games exposed. Real chemotherapy kills the weak cells first — and make no mistake, plenty of them have been running the show for too long. Either America takes the cure, or it makes its final appointment with history.

So – no matter what your political persuasion may be, something needs to change. What other choices are there? Hello CHEMO.
