So far so good? Good question, right? The new year is only two weeks old and holy cow, so much has happened. Can this pace continue for another fifty weeks? Yeah, it just might.
So far the U.S. has captured the president of a foreign country (Maduro… Venezuela) and worked a deal for 50M barrels of oil, encouraged a revolution (ongoing) in Iran, set the stage for a takeover of Greenland, and increased crackdowns on illegal migrants. Or, illegal aliens — but that gets into secret UFO stuff.
Not to mention the financial markets hitting all-time highs. Stocks refuse to go down, gold and silver are soaring to nosebleed highs, and up-to-date economic data hasn’t recovered from the past government shutdown. Flying high but don’t have wings.
Ah, but enough of all that “old” stuff. What about the next few weeks? What could possibly happen? The old cliché of “you don’t know what you don’t know” comes to mind, which is somewhat scary as well. Just starting this week it looks like the WH and DOJ have declared war on the Fed — particularly Fed Chair J. Powell. The DOJ has launched an investigation into Mr. Powell and the Fed’s construction of new office space. This is unprecedented. In other words, lower interest rates or we go after you, Mr. Powell. This could get really nasty.
If that weren’t enough to start the next two weeks, President Trump is asking (?), demanding (?), or ordering banks to cap interest rates on credit cards at 10%. Sounds great unless you’re a banker. If that happens, a lot of risk management systems are going to “explode” and people may lose credit. But hey, this idea may be over before two weeks expire.
Those two things would normally be spread over a month or more, BUT it begins another two-week cycle. What next?
Looking out to later in the new year, keep in mind that come July our country will celebrate 250 years of nationhood. You can bet that every bad actor or terrorist group would love to blow the candles out on that cake. Maybe that’s why the huge ICE crackdown on illegal migrants that found their way here.
Also, there are mid-term elections coming up. If there is a change in the House of Representatives’ majority, you can be assured there will be another impeachment of Trump. I mean, that’s worked so well previously — surely third time’s the charm.
Ready for another few weeks? Let’s overthrow Iran, make Cuba change its ways, and annex Greenland. I mean, there are 50 weeks left. Hang on.
