Recently, it seems we are regularly hearing about another cryptocurrency-related scam, another major corporation developing non-fungible token (NFT) collectables, and another sovereign nation adopting digital currencies.

Russia & Ukraine updates, Visa & MasterCard cut ties with Russia, Switzerland adds sanctions and freezes Russia-owned digital assets, Yearn founder and lead Fantom developers have officially left the crypto space, and 60 new DeFi projects are headed for Cardano (ADA). Rarify aims to add value to the NFT sector, while Thetanut aims to level the playing field in crypto-related options markets. Finally, Binance bets big with its new payment venture aimed at accelerating the adoption of crypto worldwide.

After last week's report, we had some concern that the fintech VC sector was starting to lose it's luster. For the first time, we saw a Top 5 deal come in under $100M, and it's been some time since we've seen that. Not to fear. Apparently last week was a temporary "seasonally adjusted" blip, and here we are back in $200M+ territory again.

With critics questioning the viability of the crypto ecosystem after sustainability concerns raised by Elon Musk and others, Sarson Funds believes that crypto moves in stride with the future of sustainable finance and ESG investing.

Friends, this week the VC numbers ratcheted down QUITE a bit in the fintech sector. What gives with that? It's probably coincidental that it has coincided in some part with the dramatic stock market declines in the US this week, because these deals take some time to close, but still, the coincidental timing is quite curious.
