Recently, it seems we are regularly hearing about another cryptocurrency-related scam, another major corporation developing non-fungible token (NFT) collectables, and another sovereign nation adopting digital currencies.

Try being Janet Yellen. Yes J-Yell, the new U.S. Secretary of the Treasury, certainly has her hands full. She is attempting to convince investors that printing gobs of money is non-inflationary and also convince global nations joining the U.S. in raising taxes is really good for them.

With bitcoin and crypto in general continuing its pricing uptrend - so, too, is investment within the crypto and blockchain sectors - with 3 of this week's top 5 fintech VC deals falling under those two categories.

Speaking recently at a Senate Finance Committee hearing, Dr .Yellen commented; “I think many (cryptocurrencies) are used, at least in a transaction sense, mainly for illicit financing. And I think we really need to examine ways in which we can curtail their use, and make sure that anti-money laundering doesn't occur through those channels.” Now if you buy into that line of thinking you may be very surprised to know that the data just does not support Dr. Y's comments (and Daffy didn't win an Academy Award).

You would think that with last week's Thanksgiving holiday here in the US, muted as it was due to the pandemic, we would have seen slowed down deal activity in the fintech sector. Turns out that assumption would be WRONG, and we still saw deal closings, believe it or not, with one that topped $300M(!!) and three more topped the $100M+ figure.
