Bye bye Summer. The end is near. The last two weeks of August are famous for being extremely dull in financial markets and so it is again. So, with a dearth of news (and general malaise of interest) in the financial and fintech markets, here are some follow ups and updates from some "hot" pieces that made headlines the past couple of months.

We've given up acting surprised when every deal each week continues to be over $100M in VC funding, and this week is no different. What I loved seeing is that the US was back in the driver's seat for the top deals internationally in financial technology.

Despite the chaos in the world lately, the financial markets continue to turn. Global fintechs are exploring the U.S. markets for multi-billion-dollar public listings, including more potential SPACs. Just because a company looks like a fintech doesn’t mean it is one. Demand for bitcoin and Ethereum is only growing stronger, and crypto payments have made their way to Android. Let’s dive in.

D, and international in scope. I honestly sometimes feel guilty limiting this list to the Top 5 VC deals, because important deals OVER $100M USD are increasingly not making the cut for this column. But that's where the fintech VC market is headed - "to infinity, and beyond".

With a combined market cap of $1.8 trillion, the cryptocurrency industry has gotten too big for lawmakers to ignore. But politicians are missing the forest for the trees with their hastily written legislation. Fintech startup Circle is looking to join the ranks as a digital currency bank. Meanwhile, since last week’s Square/Afterpay deal, Buy Now Pay Later startups are looking increasingly attractive. SPACs are still a trend and more. Let’s dive in! 

This past week we again saw some MIGHTY deals in the digital wealth sector, with every one over $200M USD, and so many in that category that we couldn't include others in the $100M-$200M USD range this week's Top 5 list. Shocking, isn't it?

Just when it looked like the summer doldrums were upon us, Square saved the day, announcing a blockbuster deal in the buy now, pay later space. It is yet another sign that fintech continues to disrupt traditional payments. In addition, international M&A is afoot while the IPO pipeline continues to grow.

In one recent survey, almost 84% of investors said they believe receiving personalized content is important when making their decision about who to invest with, and 42% now start the search for a financial advisor online.

This week, we're back again with a fresh new round of top 5 VC deals in the digital wealth sector, and in the famous (non-sensical) words of Yogi Berra, "it's like deja vu all over again". ONE MORE WEEK with every deal at $100M USD+ and we even had to trim one - Employment Hero ($100M USD) - because we had 3 deals come in right at $100M and could only use two for our weekly story.
